The only way Jordan Clarkson doesn’t start at SG for the Utah Jazz is if he starts at PG

Jordan Clarkson is going to start at shooting guard this year for the Utah Jazz unless he starts at point guard.

Sports Illustrated just released their list of the guys most likely to start at shooting guard for the Utah Jazz. And honestly, we’re confused that there’s a list. Sure, the point guard spot is up in the air, but the shooting guard spot seemed settled.

The job is Jordan Clarkson’s, didn’t everyone know that?

Maybe, just maybe the writer of the article would point out the only reason he wouldn’t start at the two-guard spot (shooting guard) and that’s if he starts at the point guard spot. That’s not what the article argued, instead suggesting that Clarkson could still come off the bench as the primary bench scorer.

That’s not likely to happen. Not with Collin Sexton on the team. Not with the current makeup of the squad around him. No, the only way Clarkson comes off the bench is if the team lands a Zach LaVine or Tyler Herro and doesn’t give up Clarkson in return as part of the trade.

So the real question should be surrounding who should come off the bench as the sixth man. Depending on how long you keep each player, you really have a case for two names; Kelly Olynyk and Collin Sexton.

Olynyk makes sense when you realize he can average 12 points, six rebounds, and six assists in a game off the bench. Imagine how the Cleveland Cavaliers used Kevin Love in 2021-2022. The other option, Sexton, is a lot like Clarkson in how he scores. They both like to attack the paint and sometimes will pull up and hit a mid-range jumper.

Neither is back on passing, and playing them next to one another isn’t the best idea, as they both need the ball in their hands to be effective.
